Prenatal & pregnancy care in Dallas, TX
Pregnancy reshapes how your body carries load in a matter of months. Care that accounts for that can make the difference between enduring it and moving through it comfortably.
Signs & symptoms
- Low back or pelvic pain that builds through the day
- Sharp pain at the front of the pelvis or deep in the buttock
- Sciatic-type pain running down one leg
- Mid-back and rib discomfort as the ribcage expands
- Difficulty rolling over in bed or getting out of a car
- A sense that your hips or pelvis feel uneven
Care plans are individualized following a clinical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.
Discomfort in pregnancy gets treated as something to simply put up with. Some of it is unavoidable — but a lot of it comes from mechanical changes that respond well to care.
What actually changes in your body?
Three things happen at once. Your centre of gravity shifts forward, which increases the curve in your low back and asks those muscles to work far harder than they are used to. The hormone relaxin loosens ligaments throughout the pelvis in preparation for birth — helpful for delivery, but it means joints that were stable become less so. And your abdominal wall stretches, which reduces the front-side support your spine normally relies on.
Together that is a significant change in load, arriving over a few months rather than a few years. The discomfort that follows is a mechanical response, not a personal failing.
Why does pelvic pain show up so often?
The pelvis is a ring of joints, and when ligaments soften, that ring moves more than it was designed to. Pain at the front of the pelvis, deep in the buttock, or across the low back is often the result of those joints moving unevenly.
This is also why pain can appear on one side only, or move from side to side as pregnancy progresses.
When should you call your OB or midwife instead?
Some symptoms in pregnancy need medical care rather than a chiropractic visit. Contact your OB, midwife, or emergency services right away for vaginal bleeding, fluid leaking, regular contractions before term, severe or persistent abdominal pain, a significant decrease in your baby’s movement, severe headache with vision changes or swelling, or fever.
We are not a substitute for prenatal medical care, and we work alongside your OB or midwife rather than in place of them.
How does chiropractic care help during pregnancy?
Care focuses on keeping the pelvis and spine moving evenly as the load changes, easing the muscle tension that builds from carrying that load, and giving you positions and gentle exercises that help between visits.
For many patients this means better sleep, easier movement, and less day-to-day pain. It is not a guarantee, and every pregnancy is different — we will tell you honestly at your evaluation what we think we can help with.
What does a prenatal visit look like here?
Gentler than most people expect. We use pregnancy-specific positioning that takes all pressure off the abdomen, adapt technique and force to your stage, and check in constantly about what feels comfortable. Nothing about a visit should feel forceful or precarious.
Your first appointment is an evaluation — history, how you are moving, what is bothering you most — before any care begins.
What can you do at home?
Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees to keep the pelvis level. Avoid standing on one hip. Sit down to put on trousers and shoes rather than balancing on one leg. Keep moving with walking or swimming if you are able, and get up regularly if you sit for work.
Small, consistent habits matter more here than any single stretch.
